Why It Matters
At least 2.2 billion people worldwide live with vision impairment – and for at least 1 billion of them, it could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed (WHO, 2026). Through awareness, outreach, and global cooperation, Rotarians are helping to change that reality – one eye, one person, one community at a time.
Our Mission
Our mission goes beyond vision care. It is about restoring dignity, enabling education, and empowering livelihoods through the gift of sight. We believe in providing relief and the cure of defects and diseases affecting the eyes and vision of people worldwide.
We aim to:
- Raise global awareness of avoidable blindness and its impact on underserved communities.
- Support sustainable eye care programs that provide screenings, surgeries, and treatments where they are needed the most.
- Collaborate with Rotary Clubs, NGOs, and global health partners to deliver high-impact, community-driven eye care initiatives.
- Train and equip local health professionals to build long-term, local capacity.
- Advocate for policy and funding support to expand access to eye care at the national and international levels.
Every pair of eyes we help see the world is a step closer to a world where no one is left in the dark.
Our Roots
The Blindness Prevention Rotary Action Group (BPRAG) was formerly known as the Rotarian Action Group for Blindness Prevention (RAG4BP). It is an outgrowth of the former Avoidable Blindness Task Force, the Fellowship of Eye Care Professionals, and the Eye Care Fellowship of Rotarians. The BPRAG welcomes all Rotarians and friends of Rotary who want to make a lasting difference through sight-saving services.
